Our Story

Why Catbird?

Our founder, Alice Beaver Clapham, hails from East Tennessee in the Appalachian Mountains. In the American South, there is an expression, "sitting in the catbird seat" which means you're in a desirable position--a place of knowledge and worldly perspective or just plain sitting pretty!

Aims

Catbird Theatre believes in the power of theatre to awaken the imagination in young people.  We see theatre as a means of teaching compassion and fostering personal discovery through new and innovative works. We are committed to theatre making that inspires young people to think critically and creatively.

Goals

Our main goal at Catbird Theatre is to provide quality theatre for young audiences that inspires and challenges young minds. We believe arts access is vital to young people as it sparks imagination. We want to create a love of the arts that will be carried over into adulthood.

CATBIRD THEATRE ACKNOWLEDGES THE TRADITIONAL OWNERS OF THE LAND ON WHICH WE CREATE ART.  WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO PAY  RESPECT TO ELDERS PAST AND PRESENT.
